Halloween is here, which means carving pumpkins, scary movies, and of course lots of tricks and treats. While we all love delicious goodies, we don’t necessarily love how they make us feel or the weight we might gain. As we gear up for the holiday season, weight gain is incredibly common…and frustrating. We’ve put together some tips on how to enjoy a healthy Halloween!
Try Making Your Own Treats
The only way to ever really know what you’re consuming is by making it yourself. Treats bought at the store are most likely loaded with sugar, empty calories, and preservatives which don’t do anything for your health. If you get creative (Pinterest, anyone?), you can make your own Fall goodies with healthier ingredients and fewer calories. If you have kids, they will have a scary good time helping you make them!
Set a Limit
If skipping Halloween candy just isn’t in the cards for you, that’s okay. Try setting a limit to how much candy you will consume. Instead of indulging in candy until Thanksgiving, allow yourself a set amount or a span of time. When that’s up, throw out the leftover candy or bring it into work or school for others to enjoy and get back to your healthy eating.
Get Involved in Every Other Aspect
Halloween isn’t just about candy. If you want to get into the spirit of things but want to keep your health on track, focus on the other aspects of Halloween. Create the best costume you’ve ever made or fill your home with spooky decorations. Maybe just take the night to watch a scary movie marathon. Sometimes it isn’t the candy we want as much as the feelings that come with it. If you find another way to get involved, you might be able to enjoy the hauntingly fun holiday without the added sugar!
Halloween is one of our favorite times of the year…but it can also be unhealthy if you aren’t diligent about maintaining balance. Do you have any other tips for a healthy Halloween? Let us know in the comments!
